Patna: In response to the rising crime rates in state, the Bihar police have stepped up their efforts to tackle criminal activities. A recent encounter in Patna has brought the police’s proactive measures into the spotlight. The incident involved a shootout between the police and a notorious criminal, resulting in the arrest of the accused.
The Encounter in Suarmarwa
In the early hours of the night, around 3:00 AM, an encounter took place in the Suarmarwa area under the Maner police station, near Patna. The Patna Police and Special Task Force (STF) engaged in a confrontation with a group of criminals. During the exchange of fire, a notorious criminal, Sonu Kumar, sustained a bullet injury and was subsequently arrested.
Police Action and Arrest
Upon receiving a tip-off about the presence of criminals in Suarmarwa village, a special police team was formed under the leadership of Danapur ASP Bhanu Pratap Singh. The team, which included the STF, swiftly moved to the location. As the police approached, the criminals opened fire, prompting the police to retaliate. Sonu Kumar was shot in the leg during the exchange and was later taken into custody. He is currently receiving treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).
Escape of Other Criminals
While Sonu Kumar was injured and arrested, the other criminals managed to flee under the cover of darkness. The police are now intensifying their search to apprehend the remaining suspects.
Background of the Arrested Criminal
Sonu Kumar is a well-known criminal with multiple cases registered against him in various police stations, including Danapur and Maner. He had been evading arrest for a long time, making his capture a significant achievement for the police. Patna West City SP Sarath RS confirmed that Sonu Kumar was among the top 10 most-wanted criminals in the area.
Ongoing Investigation
The police are currently interrogating Sonu Kumar to gather more information about his criminal activities and his associates. No police personnel were injured during the encounter, and the operation is being hailed as a successful step in curbing crime in the region.
