Patna: The Bihar Police Headquarters has issued a stern warning to criminals, declaring that they will not hesitate to use force, including opening fire, if necessary. This announcement came during a press conference held on Monday, addressing the recent attacks on police personnel and government property across various districts during the Holi festival. ADG Headquarters Kundan Krishnan and ADG Law and Order Pankaj Darad emphasised a strict stance on maintaining law and order.
Police Will Not Hesitate to Use Force
ADG Krishnan stated that those who attacked the police will face severe consequences. He warned that if a life-threatening situation arises, the police will not shy away from using firearms. He added that the fate of those involved in such attacks will be dire.
Attacks on Police at 10 Locations During Holi
ADG Krishnan revealed that during the Holi celebrations, police and administrative staff were targeted in at least 10 districts across the state. Sensitive areas such as Munger, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Vaishali, and Samastipur were among the affected regions.
ASI Killed in Munger Attack
In Munger, a 112 Emergency Response Team was ambushed, resulting in the death of an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI). The officer sustained a severe head injury after being struck with a stick and succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Additionally, incidents of stone-pelting on police vehicles and stations were reported in several areas.
ADG Krishnan described these incidents as not only a challenge to law and order but also a rebellion against the state government by anarchic elements. He asserted, “We will not tolerate such acts. Those involved are being identified, and swift action will be taken. No one will be spared.”
Outrage Over Munger Incident
The Munger attack has left the administration deeply shaken. On Holi, when the 112 team responded to an emergency call, they were suddenly attacked by a mob. Vehicles were damaged, and a security personnel suffered a critical head injury, leading to his death. ADG Darad condemned the incident as “unbearable,” stating that attacking emergency services is a crime against society.
Reasons Behind Police Attacks
During the press conference, journalists questioned the motives behind the attacks on police. ADG Krishnan attributed the violence to criminal gangs and anti-social elements deliberately attempting to spread chaos. He noted that festivals like Holi are often exploited opportunistically. He also highlighted that alcohol and drug consumption in some cases exacerbate such violence.
No Leniency for Attackers
ADG Krishnan issued a clear warning that no mercy would be shown to those who attack the police. He stated, “If a police officer’s life is in danger, they will be compelled to use firearms in self-defence. Our personnel have been instructed to take all necessary steps to protect themselves.”
Criminals Will Face Severe Consequences
He further emphasised that those involved in the attacks would face harsh repercussions. FIRs have been filed in all cases, and arrests are being made based on CCTV footage.
Ban on DJs, Loudspeakers, and Orchestras Continues
To maintain public order, the police have upheld the ban on DJs, loudspeakers, and orchestras. ADG Krishnan explained that the decision aims to curb noise pollution and prevent disturbances to public peace. He added, “While we respect the right to celebrate festivals, any violation of the law will not be tolerated.”
Recall of Excess Bodyguards
In a significant move, the police announced the withdrawal of additional bodyguards assigned to individuals beyond their actual need. ADG Darad stated, “Some individuals have 10-12 bodyguards, while the genuine requirement is only 2-3. These resources will be reallocated to enhance public security.”
New Police Strategy and Public Appeal
In response to the recent incidents, the police have decided to intensify patrolling in sensitive areas, deploy drone surveillance, and monitor local suspects. ADG Krishnan also appealed to the public to cooperate in maintaining law and order and to refrain from spreading or believing rumours.
